Home charging, explained simply.

Sockets, wallboxes and charging times: a practical guide to choosing your solution.

Charge while your car is parked.

For many drivers, home charging replenishes the energy used for daily journeys overnight. The right solution depends on the car, your parking space and the electrical installation.

Can I use a domestic socket?

A suitable socket can support slow charging with a compatible portable charger. Not every socket or circuit is suitable for sustained use. Have an installer check the socket, protective devices and circuit; a dedicated charging point can be the most practical everyday solution.

Will a 7.4 kW wallbox charge the car overnight?

It depends on how much energy you need to replenish. At 7.4 kW for eight hours, up to 59.2 kWh is supplied from the grid before losses. The car, available power and load management can limit the actual charging rate.

That can replenish many daily driving needs, but does not mean every battery can charge from 0 to 100% in eight hours.

From €0.80/100 km*

A low energy-cost example: 16 kWh of billed electricity per 100 km × €0.05/kWh = €0.80. The example’s consumption includes energy taken from the grid, including charging losses.

*Illustrative example before taxes and fixed electricity-supply charges. The €0.05/kWh rate is a promotional offer with compatibility and managed-charging requirements. It is not a universal rate. Actual cost depends on the car, consumption and your electricity contract.

What does a charging-point installation cost?

As a guide for straightforward installations, allow €600–€1,200. This is not a fixed quotation: cable distance, protection, building work and equipment choice can increase the cost.

Ask for a quotation specifying whether it includes the charger, protective devices, cabling, certification and taxes. This allows you to compare complete costs.

In a communal garage

The installation needs to suit your space and building. An installer can assess the cable route, available supply and necessary procedures before recommending equipment.
