The Canary Islands combine the perfect conditions: short distances, constant sunshine and a unique tax regime that eliminates IGIC for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.
From €0.80 per 100 km charging at home. Compared to €8–12 for petrol, annual savings can exceed €1,500 in typical use.
90% of daily trips in the Canary Islands are under 50 km. Any modern electric or plug-in hybrid covers that easily on a single charge.
With photovoltaic panels — very common in the Canaries — you can charge with energy you generate yourself. Fuel cost: zero.
No vibration, no engine noise. Dramatically simplified maintenance: no oil changes, no timing belt, no clutch.
An electric motor has 20–30 moving parts versus 200+ in a combustion engine. Fewer breakdowns, cheaper servicing.
The Canary Islands Government targets climate neutrality by 2040. The public charging network is expanding across all islands.
We source from the major European markets — Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Norway — and from international auctions. Both pure electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV).
Looking for a different model? We also import VW ID.3/ID.4/ID.5, Mercedes EQC/EQS, Tesla Model S/X, Polestar 2, plug-in hybrids and any other low-emission vehicle available in Europe or at auction.
Ask about a model →The Canary Islands have their own tax system — the IGIC — which replaces mainland VAT. For electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, the applicable rate is 0%.
We manage the entire import process from start to finish. You choose the car; we handle everything else.
Tell us which car you want and your budget. We prepare a fixed, all-inclusive quote: vehicle price, customs clearance (DUA), registration tax (IEDMT), ITV inspection, technical approval (if required) and DGT registration.
We search the major European markets — Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Norway — and international auctions, prioritising verifiable service history and documented mileage.
We purchase the vehicle and take care of all logistics to get it to your island.
We file the import declaration (DUA) through VEXCAN — the single digital window for customs in the Canary Islands — and settle the 0% IGIC and applicable duties with the Canarian Tax Agency (ATC) and the Spanish Tax Agency (AEAT).
We take the vehicle to the ITV with all documentation. If the vehicle does not have a European Certificate of Conformity (CoC), we obtain the reduced technical data sheet or individual approval from Spain's Ministry of Industry and Tourism (MINCOTUR) as required.
We submit the full file to the DGT, obtain the Spanish registration plate and deliver the vehicle ready to drive on your island.
It's not just a global trend. The specific conditions of the archipelago make the switch to electric far more compelling here than anywhere else in Spain.
The Canary Islands' public charging network is expanding continuously across all islands. Most day-to-day trips are handled by charging at home overnight.
The mild temperatures of the archipelago are optimal for lithium-ion battery longevity. Batteries degrade faster in extreme cold or heat — neither of which the islands see.
Electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles access low-emission zones without restrictions and enjoy parking benefits in many Canarian municipalities.
Importing now means access to a far wider catalogue than what's available locally — European vehicles with active factory warranties at very competitive prices.
No commitment. A WhatsApp message is enough to find out whether your ideal car is available and how much it would cost to import it to the Canary Islands.
